Brad Bird has been one of my favorite directors since I watched The Iron Giant, so I was extremely excited to work in one of his films. All of the stories about him seem to be true - he cares deeply about Film, and has very strong opinions about how things should be made - but I was also pleasantly surprised to see how nice and supportive of the artists he was.
I wasn’t on this show for a long time, but I got to work on parts of two sequences: When the mind controlled supers attack the Parr’s new residence, and when Helen desperately jumps mid-air through Voyd’s portals to reach a fleeing Jet. Both sequences were action packed and presented a number of challenges when transposed from the amazing storyboards into 3D space in a Believable way, because yes, even super hero cartoons need to be believable if you want the audience to care.
Mahyar Abousaeedi Led the Layout Department as the Camera Director of Photography, squeezing as much clarity, thoughtfulness and style into our shots as possible.
